I was talking earlier this year (when the pandemic hadn’t hit us this hard yet) about what trends are worth trying this year. And today you’ll notice that the trends I was talking about then will be found in a large part of the trends stated on this list. Are you ready to find out if you have these items in your closet? Stay with me to discover this year's hottest summer trends:
1. Dresses with Volume
There was no other summer in which dresses with volume were so popular. Get ready for a “hurricane” of volumes and exaggerations, puff sleeves taken to the extreme, the total lack of waist, but also an underline of the bust. Casual, feminine, and fashion-forward, this trend is worth giving a try. For example, to my dress with volume, I added a pair of square heeled sandals and my favorite bag that caused a stir on Instagram.
2. Color from Head to Toe
The pandemic was associated with "sterile" colors, uncertainty, anxiety and extreme paranoia (do you remember the fight over the toilet paper in the supermarket?). Fashion and social life have always been interconnected, and fashion has responded to social stimuli. So it’s no wonder that this need for freedom makes the attraction to vibrant colors increase day by day. Fuchsia, bright green, intense yellow, cobalt blue, and lavender - all these shades are huge. Combine these colors to get a fresh outfit.
3. Power dressing
Suits, office pants, oversized jackets - all these are BIG this summer. You will find these pieces mostly made of fluid fabrics such as linen and satin, just good to wear at hot temperatures. My recommendation? Invest in a beige blazer - it’s just as versatile as a pair of white sneakers.
4. A Return to the ’90s
I was talking in this blog post about the comeback of shoulder bags in the nineties style, but not only bags were inspired by this decade. Long satin dresses, straight-cut high-waisted jeans paired with a light sweater, a trench coat thrown over them - this minimalism specific to the ’90s is very trendy this summer. Moreover, it corresponds to people's need to relax, to return to a period in which things were different, and masks were not part of the everyday style.
5. Square Toe Strappy Sandals
You'll spot them everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I really mean everywhere. They are the IT shoes for this summer. They are as popular as platform boots were a few years ago. Minimalism is embraced at all levels, including the legs. I predicted this trend since last year and this is exactly the reason why I chose square toe strappy sandals at my civil wedding. You can see them here. If you're wondering if it's worth investing in such a pair of sandals, I'll tell you yes. They will trend next year as well.
6. Gold Oversized Chains
This trend is already almost like a "disease". It appeared out of nowhere and it spread everywhere. Oversized gold chains can be paired with anything, everywhere. It can be paired with a simple jacket and a top. Or with a turtleneck and a skirt. Or with whatever you want. In short, it's good especially for those outfits that you would initially think it wouldn't work. I haven't embraced this trend yet, but I don't promise anything for the upcoming month. There are already a few such chains on my favorites list.
7. White Dresses
I have mentioned them in my recent blog posts and I'll continue to do so, precisely because white dresses are very popular this summer. They have been trending over the years, but this summer they have reached another level. They became a must-have. Even the dress from point 1 contains white and could somehow be framed at this point. You can find out how to wear a white dress, but also find some super nice recommendations right here.
